Challenge

When it comes to finding a new job, it’s not just overwhelming but stressful too. A study found that average applicants apply to over 200 companies through 10+ job websites to land their dream job. What if I reduce their efforts by connecting them to the referrers that accelerate their job-hunting process?

How might I help job seekers to get a job through connections?

How might I connect job seekers to referrers to help them achieve their goals

"It doesn't save and update new preferences and is not intuitive for the user."

  • Allow job seekers to communicate with the person who posted the job/ hiring team.

  • Less availability of jobs on the portals.

  • Limitation to essential Features - Save Jobs, Share Jobs.

  • Unsure about receiving a response from the person who posted the job.

Research

Findings

Findings

  • Allow job seekers to communicate with the employer.

  • Promotion ads on the app make users frustrated.

  • The fee is not relevant to the results.

  • It’s mandatory for users to select certain parameters.

“This app is missing the mark by a very long shot. It is NOT AT ALL feasible for a recruiter and applicants. ”

  • Recruiters are looking for the perfect candidate that matches their requirements and are unable to reply back to a huge amount of applications which disappoints the fresher candidate and leads them the leave bad reviews.

  • Job seekers are impatient to wait for the employer's response.

  • If the recruiter has posted several jobs then it’s confusing for them to find out, for which application candidates are approaching.

Competitive analysis
  • 73% of users prefer to apply through referrals because they find potential that helps them accelerate the application process.

  • Users are less likely to try social media platforms, and LinkedIn because they feel they don’t get responses as they expected.

  • Users who have referred candidates to their companies focus more on their experience level than their education and current status.

Findings

I created a survey and sent it to my friends that help me understand what platforms users use while job applications and prefer if sponsored. Similarly, what information is necessary from the candidate's data while referring them to the companies?

Survey Analysis
  • How do job seekers reach out to you?

  • What documents/data do you require from them?

  • What information do you look for from the candidate's data?

  • What are the motivations to refer someone to your company?

  • If an app/website helps you connect to job-seeking people, what functions do you expect from the app?

Key Questions I asked Job Referrers

Cumulatively, we interviewed five users. Three of them were looking for new positions and two of them have referred their couple of friends to their tech companies. Although I myself am a job seeker, can relate to job-finding problems and easily understand their frustrations and needs.

Persona

Key Questions I asked JobSeekers

  • How do you apply for jobs? What websites do you use?

  • What are your job application experiences?

  • For accelerating the job application process what steps do you take?

  • What do you think about the referrals?

  • If an app/website helps you connect referrals from different companies, what functions do you expect from the app?

I wanted to create a welcoming user interface, and a dash of glassmorphism can make the layout more visually engaging. It employs a lighter touch with semi-transparent background and with a sublime shadow and border.

Mood Board

Having defined key product and screen requirements, I started sketching some wireframe ideas. Especially when it comes to designing from scratch, it always helped me to do hand sketches to get the ideas flowing.

Wireframe
  • The onboarding process needed to clearly define eg. a user needs to double verify their email ID for security purposes.

  • The tutorial screen after onboarding would be helpful for users to learn the icons and screen.

  • For the profile page, I systematically separated the elements and enabled the edit option for each element.

  • While discussing with the developer, I discovered that the chat feature needed constant connection maintenance for publisher/subscriber patterns and is difficult to implement in MVP. Hence we decided to remove the chat feature from the app for now.

We listed and reserved a few more features for the future scope, but after looking at the user’s responses, we firmed on adding them later. Our main goal is to connect Job seekers and referrers on this platform and we believe that communication would be the key to this goal. Looking forward we wanted to add a chat/message feature for simple and reliable connections. Without the hassle of email, or other file-sharing apps we allow users to send documents, PDFs, and more.
